Team Polti Kometa in the Giro d’Italia for the fourth time
With enthusiasm and a hint of adrenaline needed to face an important race with the right spirit, the athletes of Team Polti Kometa are preparing to cover the 3,321 kilometers of the 2024 Giro d'Italia. For the fourth consecutive year, from May 4th to May 26th, we will see them pedal through breathtaking landscapes, from the north to the south of Italy, proudly wearing the new jersey that celebrates the vibrant and decisive colors of the main sponsor Polti and co-title Kometa. Distinctive shades that will not fail to stand out in the group of cyclists from participating teams.
The victories and achievements attained by Team Polti Kometa, led by Ivan Basso and the Contador brothers, are a testament to their undeniable suitability to receive the invitation to the Giro d'Italia. Among the most significant successes, Lorenzo Fortunato's conquest of the Zoncolan in 2021 and Davide Bais's triumph on the Gran Sasso in 2023 stand out, crowned by an extraordinary week in the blue jersey. With two victories in three seasons, Team Polti Kometa distinguishes itself as the only Italian ProTeam of the last decade to have achieved this number of stage wins. In addition to these remarkable results, there are two more podium finishes, with Gavazzi in second place in Guardia Sanframondi in 2021 and Albanese in third in Jesi in 2022, along with numerous kilometers covered in memorable breakaways.
Along with the invitation to the Giro d'Italia, invitations have also arrived for other prestigious races organised by RCS Sport, including Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico, and Milano-Sanremo.
Francesca Polti, President and CEO of Polti, comments on the news: "The Giro d'Italia is not only an exciting sporting event but also a journey through breathtaking landscapes and a celebration of Italian culture. 2024 will mark the team's fourth consecutive participation in the Giro, a recognition of the determination and talent of the young athletes who make up the team. The energy is sky-high, not only within the team but also at Polti, where we are excited to support the riders as they challenge the great champions on the roads of the Giro d'Italia. It's worth noting that, in the event of winning two stages, Alberto Contador has made a promise in front of the cameras: to cycle the distance from Madrid to Milan and from Milan to Budapest! This commitment adds a touch of excitement and ambition to this significant event for our team."
"Teams like ours begin discussing wildcard entries right from the pre-retreats," comments Ivan Basso, Sports Manager of Team Polti Kometa. "Receiving one for the Giro and other prestigious races is a source of great pride, a recognition of our consistency and our approach to racing beyond just results. The Giro will be the cornerstone of Polti Kometa's entire calendar, and we will approach it with the right mindset: aggressive yet disciplined, aiming to seize every opportunity and repay the organizers, fans, sponsors... and ourselves for the trust placed in us."
